In the last blog, one of the questions posed was what revolutions need to occur for America to become a better society?
The election of Barack Obama marks a revolutionary moment in American history. With a revolutionary election comes a revolutionary idea. Among Obama’s many ideas to revolutionize America, at the top of his agenda is National Service. He wants to expand National Service programs such as Americorps and Peacecorps, and most importantly, engage young Americans. Obama wants to set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and expand YouthBuild, which is a program that enables disadvantaged youth to complete high school while learning how to build affordable housing in their communities. In addition, he would like to create initiatives for college students to receive scholarships in exchange for 100 hours of community service.
His other initiatives are listed on his website:

Questions to answer:
What if every young person became part of this revolution and devoted part of their educational experience to the betterment of the community/society?
How would expanding National Service impact our community?
Should National Service be mandatory like it is in other countries?

i think if young people became part of this revolution and devoted part of their education to better their surroundings they would be bettering their country and still have enough education to get where they need in life.
i think by expanding the national service it would put a big impact on the community like less kids on the corner, less kids in the house on the couch watching tv with nothing else to do.It would be less trash blowing down the street to.
i think community service should be mandatory because no matter what you should want to come out every sunday or saturday and clean your community and if your to lazy you should be made to.

I think expanding National Sevrice would make a great impact in our community because, it would be more safe for everyone.
I think that National Service should be mandatory like it is in other countries because, we don't need another situation like 9/11 happening again.

Hello Mr.Turner, this is Yvette Craig from 414.I agree with what Barack Obama is trying to do.I only say this because we as young people need to understand the importance of Americorps and Peacecorps and how to build affordable housing in our communities.National service would impact our communities because it would show us to care for one another.I also agree that National Service should be allowed in all of the countries.Maybe this is one step to making this world a better place.

i think that if every young person devoted themselves to the idea then there would be a lot less crime between the kids on the street and less death because they'll be too busy doing whats required for them to do.i just think it would be a little more peaceful.i dont think it should be manditory though...alexis
